A common misconception is that cockroaches come for food leftovers. In reality, they are primarily attracted to moisture and warmth. A slow pipe leak under the kitchen sink, condensation behind the refrigerator, or a blocked bathroom drain that retains water creates the ideal cockroach habitat — regardless of how spotlessly clean the rest of the kitchen is.

In Malaysia's hot and humid climate, these conditions are widespread. Check for any dripping taps, pipe condensation, and slow-draining sinks as a first step in cockroach prevention.

New Development and Neighbourhood Construction

Professional cockroach gel bait treatment is the most effective long-term solution for infestations in clean homes. Here is why it works where sprays do not:

• Gel bait is placed in small amounts inside cracks, crevices, and harbourage points — exactly where the colony lives
• Cockroaches consume the bait, return to the nest, and die there — where other members of the colony consume them, spreading the active ingredient through a process called secondary kill
• Gel bait is effective against resistant German cockroach populations because it works differently from contact insecticides
